US Gun Crime Infographic



  • The above infographic represents the Gun crime in the United States in 2011. When i started digging deeper it revealed some mind boggling statistics. US is 40% higher than Yemen which is the second largest in terms of gun ownership.
  • The 3 charts/graphs shown in the above infographic give a clear picture of the kind of threat it poses to the United States. 
  • The bar graph inside the gun represents the weapons used for crime in 2011 and goes to show that Handgun is way above other weapons ( almost four times ).
  • The bar graph on the lower left hand side represents the % change in firearm murders in 2011 compared to 2010. Wyoming reports a mammoth 120% increase in firearm murders (shown in red to attract attention) and Rhode Island reported a 68% decrease (represented in green to indicate safety). Diverging colors are used to show the contrast.
  • The US map on the bottom right hand corner represents the firearm murders in 2011 per 100,000 population. A Sequential red color scheme is used to represent this data. The states with lower ratio are shown in lighter red color and states with high murder rate are shown in darker red color.
